Painting for me has to do with what is just beyond the point of balance. Something unusual presents itself. It might be the simplest thing–the color at the edge of a columbine where it sorts itself out from the chaos of wilderness.
You look twice and you see twice. Picking up the brush and spreading out the colors and painting what you feel about it is a dance with what is just beyond. It’s always the moment of elegance, the old magic of the whole barely pertaining to the sum of its parts.
